Papercut Art!

This is the beginning of a continuing series on affordable original art and where to find it. Art is such a wonderful, individual expression both of the artist and the one who displays it. It can make a room come to life and can also be a great jumping off point for a new design.

Today, I'm showing you papercut artwork. This type of artwork is very versatile since it's usually done in black and white and can thus be moved from room to room without worrying about "matching". I also love it because each time you pass by it you can stop and really appreciate the intricate work that's gone into it. That said, here are some picks:

Suzy Taylor lives in England with three children. Her work can be found on Etsy here.

Her prices for originals run from as little as $10 for 2.5X3.5 inches to $60 for 8X8 inches. She also has Giclee prints available at an even lower cost.

Joe Bagley lives in Boston. His original papercuts range from $750 for large and complicated to $20 for smaller and simpler. You can buy his work here

Catay on Etsy has some nice handcuts already framed in shadowboxes for $50 each here:

And, finally, Angie Pickman (aka RuralPearl) had lots of wimsical and affordable (around $20 each) high-quality prints made from her original (and much more expensive) papercuts here:

Keep a lookout for papercuts when you're out thrifting or on vacation near an artist's community. You might just find yourself something amazing. Have a great day!
